replace part/subassembly
Select part, a bolt, for example, and change it to a wood screw. A dialog pops up indicating old constraints, allowing user to select each constraint and redefine on replacement part/assembly.

This is similar to an idea that I was going to post: BREAK ASSOCIATION command for an assembly. The ability to select a part in an assembly and break its association and replace it with another similar part. One may have to edit some of the constraints for the new part, but that would not be a big deal. Currently, I use a work-around by altering the old part name in the file system.... when I reopen the assembly, it cannot find the old part and allows me to replace it with a new/different one. However, this is a pain, and is too many steps... a simple command in assembly mode would be nice to have.

A replace part utility is essential for 3D modeling in printed circuit design work. A component origin and orientation should be selectable in 90 degree rotations, 4 for flipping in a plane, and 2 for flipping above or below the plane. Printed circut design packages are now exporting assemblies in 3D and getting the models correct with a simple part swap would be great as it would save time having to do it manually. There are some times 1000's of parts of 1 type.....a global replace is crucial to be useful.

Having used Unigraphics quite a bit, I used this feature a LOT and was disappointed to see that this doesn't exist in Alibre. So...+1 for me!

I really lack it!

Constantly having to fix previous employs assemblies with the right parts. This would save me quite abit of time considering some of our assemblies can take up to 45 min. to 2 hrs to regenerate because our shop demands we show threads. and the fact that we don't have the most up to date computers.

This is a great idea, partly because the function is useful, and partly because I've run into bugs multiple times where due to some issue with windows file register or something the assembly doesn't reference the correct parts when the part and/or assembly was copied using windows explorer. It would be great to be able to manually say "hey! USE THIS ONE!" Fix a bug *and* add a feature ;-)
